Yes. One of the aims of the new health care law is to encourage Americans to work with their health care provider to prevent disease and detect problems earlier, when treatment works best and is less costly.
The new law has eliminated coinsurance and the Part B deductible for many recommended preventive services, including:
- Many cancer screenings
- Other important benefits
In addition to offering people with Medicare these preventive services for no out-of-pocket cost, the law also adds an Annual Wellness Visit with a health professional. This visit complements the "Welcome to Medicare" Visit, an important first step in making a plan for appropriate preventive care with their primary care professional.
Medicare has also added coverage of new preventive services, such as annual depression screenings. These services are exempt from both the Part B deductible and coinsurance/copayment.
